• Why are services at the Colon Therapy Health and Education Centre more expensive then other Colon Hydrotherapy services in Toronto? This is question of value. While the cost is greater, the value far surpasses other similar services in Toronto. Consider the added expertise and safety of the service delivery, as well as the multitude of other services that are bundled with each colonic treatment (Sauna, nutrition, massage, exercise…). Other places typically have you in and out in 30-45 minutes and are geared towards weekly service.


  • Why is it important for the Colonic therapist to be a health care professional? Practitioners should be nurses, MDs, or NDs in order to perform treatments that abide the highest safety standards and are appropriate to each client’s medical needs. Colonics is a somewhat invasive therapy and therefore should only be delivered by knowledgeable and highly accountable professionals.


  • Are there medical conditions that should not be treated with Colon Hydrotherapy (Contra-indications)? Yes. Colon Hydrotherapy is not advised when the following conditions exist: (However, we can offer effective nutritional guidance in these cases)

  •          Severe anemia
  •          Severe hemorrhoids

  •          Renal insufficiency

  • How many Colon Hydrotherapy treatments do I need? This can vary highly from client to client and is based on a personal assessment and referrals. We sometimes recommend just two colonics followed by periodic visits.  Sometimes we recommend more regular treatments.

  • Does it hurt? No. However, it may be uncomfortable at times because of gas and fecal matter being cleared out by the water. Most clients feel much better after removing the cause of their discomfort: waste and gas.

  • Can Colon Hydrotherapy alone be used to maintain a healthy colon? Absolutely not. Colon Hydrotherapy must be combined with a healthful diet. Daily exercise is also important and stress management is essential! Colon Hydrotherapy is a step in a total process.

  • Will Colon Hydrotherapy wash away good bacteria? On it’s own, yes. That is why we use an isotonic solution and implants of good flora as part of every treatment. We also provide probiotic drinks for the same purpose.

  • Will Colon Hydrotherapy affect the balance of electrolytes in my bowel? At CTHEC, no. We use an isotonic solution during our colonics that reduces cramps and leaves the electrolyte balance intact.

  • Why is my doctor not aware of this? A large number of doctors do recommend this safe and effective procedure but, as an industry we are still trying to get the word out about safe and effective Colon Hydrotherapy.

  • Is Colon Hydrotherapy covered under OHIP or health insurance? Colon Hydrotherapy is regarded as a nursing service, and although it is not covered by OHIP, you will be given a receipt for medical expenses for income tax purposes. It is also tax exempt.
